In simple terms, LTAD is a sports development model intended to produce a long-term approach to maximising an individual’s potential and lifelong involvement in sport. Too often, the emphasis on winning can push coaches and teachers into taking tactical decisions or make substitutions that pigeon hole players into positions and in turn restrict their development. But, the LTAD model is designed to work at giving every young person the right opportunities to develop skill, rotate positions and develop as an athlete. After all – Rugby teachers children to keep their heads up, and football teaches them to use their feet…multi-sport, multi-position – and children will naturally compete.
